CCCC trip to Dartmoor, 26th August 2026.
22 members joined up to go to Dartmoor. Leaving Cornwall Services at 9.30, we firstly enjoyed some moorland around Caradon Hill stopping for coffee at Minions and the very popular tea shop. Some members joined us there. The weather forecast was thankfully incorrect, and we had a beautiful sunny day.
After about an hour, and having distributed pasties for the picnic, we set off again taking an unscheduled diversion around the bottom of Sharps Tor to Darleyford. We then continued to Upton Cross and then back onto the planned route.
We journeyed down very narrow roads meeting Tractors on more than one occasion which made for some interesting manoeuvres. Through Rilla Mill and Bray Shop, we soon crossed the River Tamar at Horsebridge.
Finding places like Chip Shop we eventually passed through Tavistock and then on to Dartmoor. We avoided numerous ponies and sheep along the way to Dartmeet where we enjoyed a picnic beside the scenic River Dart with some shade under the trees.
After a leisurely afternoon there and plenty of chitchat, most made their way back to Twobridges Hotel, near Princetown where we enjoyed a mid-afternoon Cream Tea.
The afternoon was so glorious on the moors, we stayed on for another couple of hours to soak in the moorland vistas. Everyone enjoyed the trip especially as the weather was so good.
