26 members assembled at the Cornish Services for coffee prior to a road run organised by Linda, to the Crown Inn at Lanlivery. The run took us down the new bypass from Roache to St Austell. The route deviated along Duporth to Charlestown, through Par onto Lostwithiel, taking the road up to Luxulyan then onto Lanlivery for Lunch at the Crown Inn.
After an excellent Lunch we proceeded to the Fowey Valley Distillery, at the Restormal Business Park in Lostwithiel. We were warmly greeted there by Sarah and Barry who gave us a brief history the company and how it was set up. There then followed a very interesting talk on the process of making Cider, Cider Champagne and the many other products they produced.
There then followed a tasting session, for non-drivers of course, sampling the various spirits on display which included Gin, Whisky, Rum, Vodka, Crème caramel and Apple Brandy, all produced on site. Also available was other products such as Cider Apple Vinegar, Balsamic Vinegar, Chilli Jam, Apple Chutney and various other relishes.
At the conclusion of the tasting, we were allowed to purchase any of the product of our liking. A roaring trade ensued.
Before leaving Barrie and Sarah were warmly thanked by all and Linda was duly thanked for arranging a fascinating day thoroughly enjoyed by all.
