On July 8th Mr Peter Jago, Manager of the blockworks, gave twenty members a guided tour.
The tour started where the raw materials were fed into very large hoppers and were then transported by conveyor belt to a large mixing bowl ready to be fed into the block moulds.
From then on, the whole operation was conducted by a very intelligent robotic machinery. The whole operation of turning raw materials into building blocks is carried out by just two workers who work alongside the machinery.
When the blocks were formed, they were carried away by robots and stored on shelving in a very large, heated room until they were dry. They were then put on a conveyors by robotic machinery and moved outside the building and carried away by fork-lift trucks and stored until needed.
We were informed that when the plant is in full operation it is capable of producing 96,000 blocks per day.
When the visit was over Mr Jago, who is also a director of the company, gave us all a coffee mug to remember the day.
After the visit we all drove to the White Pyramid for a very nice evening meal.
